Food is Medicine

I have always been curious about what blood type I was, but have never found out until my blood transfusion in the hospital a month ago. It was pretty non dramatic when the nurse told me I was blood type A+ as I was either an A or an O from dad and mom respectively. This brought me into looking at the D'Adamo diet that heard from a colleague suffering from hyperglycemia.

According to the D'Adamo Blood Type Diet, everyone has varying ability to digest food according to their blood type and other DNA coding on their blood type chromosome (Chromosome 9 which determines your blood type has a lot of DNA (Band Q34) associated with it). Blood type is a big gene that influences digestive tract and immune function but not the only gene. Below is a summary of what is recommended for the 4 blood types:

Type O: Immunological simple blood type and prone to inflammation. Do well on high protein diet such as deep ocean fish, grass fed lean meat. They are far better at breaking down animal protein than other blood types. Individuals usually have higher stomach acid and more enzymes. Enzyme responsible for calcium absorption requires fat. Do well on low carb, high protein. High dopamine converted to adrenaline. Aerobic exercise to reduce adrenaline.

Type A: Associated with higher rate of cancers. Can not break down protein as well as other blood types. Soy products are good for lowering cancer. Do well on low octane diet. Seafood and plant based proteins such as tofu. Vegetarian.

Adrenal gland makes too much cortisol under stress. High levels of cortisol breaks muscles, aggregates cardiovascular problems and suppresses immune system. Yoga, tai chi is helpful to reduce cortisol.

Type AB and B: Share same disease susceptibility due to the unique B antigen. They are more omnivorous than type A and O. The B antigen causes idiosyncratic relationships to develop with food. Ex. Turkey is okay but not chicken.

Looks like I am an excellent candidate for becoming a vegetarian! But maybe a pescetarian would be a better option to gain the Omega 3 nutrients needed.
