Kefir


Pronounced "Ka-fear" has 32 different strains of bacteria and while yeast. The benefits of fermented foods are numerous, and kefir is a great source of probiotics that will keep the gut happy.
















Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp starter grain (you can buy this or ask a friend for some if they make kefir)
  • 1 cup milk (homo, 2%, goat milk, etc)
  • 1 L glass jar
  • Wooden spoon


Directions:

1. Add starter grain and milk into the glass jar.
2. Cover jar with paper towel and secure with elastic band.
3. Leave out for 12 - 24hr not under direct sunlight
4. Strain the starter grains and kefir is ready to be consumed.

You can add kefir into any smoothie, eat it as you would yogurt with fruits and nuts, or drink it on its own.

Note: To keep the starter grains healthy when they are used. Keep them fed with milk and store in the fridge to slow down the fermentation process.
