There are two broad categories IBD patients are placed under: Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. For some it may be possible to have indeterminate Crohn's Colitis, in which case may they have both.
Crohn's Disease is characterized by the inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract that can start anywhere from the mouth to the anus. The inflammation spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue.
Ulcerative Colitis, short form UC is a chronic autoimmune condition characterized by inflammation in the large intestine.

It is important for people living with IBD to find and create a trusted support network, including any health care providers, family, friends, and online communities. Pay attention to stress, sleep, and diet during flare-ups and remission. The body has the wisdom to heal itself. Be patient and kind to yourself.
